The event, OECD Transfer Pricing Seminar, was held by Korean Tax Centre for the whole week. This was my first time going aboard. So I thought, Oh My God, please ALLAH, don’t let me embarrased my country for my poor English in this international seminar. Alhamdulillah, my anxiety was turned out to nothing. Actually, Indonesian can be proud of our fluent English, compare to another Asian participant. (he he he..)
First, the relationship between participants from 12 countries were still quiet and shy to each other. But after a while, especially in city tour event, we just got along very well. From chit-chat, Korean Woman, Miss Nae, was amazed when I told her that Indonesian is not using traditional alpahabet in our official matter, though Indonesia has many of them like Javanese , Celebes, Sumatra, and Bataknese alphabet. Jessica, the participant from Taiwan was happy, when I told her that she looked like Olga Lydia, an Indonesian famous actress. As return, she said that I have wonderful smile. No wonder, Indonesian people is known for their friendliness and smiling face.
Even in this international seminar, even the experts were very good, the participant from Russia fell a sleep several times. Because daytime in Seoul was nighttime in his hometown. But in night citytour, He asked so many questions to one of the expert. Actually he was curious abot the seminar, but his sleepiness just got him first. Different from the Russian guy, Duo Nguyen from Vietnam were shy, especially Nguyen Lady. She wouldn’t speak till someone asked her. She was also suddendly disappeared, when Wolfgang, the expert, was about to give her question regarding yesterday sessions. Just another typical student.
I heard many diffrent English accents along the seminar week. Nepaly and Bhutanese accent just like the Indian accent, with their rocky head and dancing hands. I told Mongolian woman, that everyone has unique and funny accent and I ddidn’t quite understand their pronounciation. And she said, actually, my accent was also funny, and at the first day, she just didn’t understand me either ….oala…
Many people characters from different countries showed up. The Malaysian were anthusiastic people. The Mongolian and Vietnamese were shy, just like the professor from Japan. The Bhutanese, eventhough he was the senior rank tax officer in his country, was very fuss. The Pakistanese was never speak up, because he has big mustache and never open his mouth widely. The Thailand man, for he was still in honeymoon (ehmm romantic…..) his wife come afterward. And the expert, Senior Adviser from IRS, was more like a sweet grandfahter, for he liked to smile all the time, and patiently answer our questions. One tips for international seminar participant, just bring our small banknotes (Rp 2000 is the prettiest), then just trade banknotes with other participants. Such an interesting and cheap souvenir!
After 5 days seminar, came along the daytime citytour. We, 30 people from diffrent countries, were just like kindergarten children. We must be together all the time, especially in tourist crowd. Because we can’t read Korean alphabet and many Korean People can’t speak English well. So if we get lost, they couldn’t guarantee that we can get back to hotel safely.
But in shopping time in Dong Daemun Market and Nang Damun Market, our last day before departed to each countryt, duo Nguyen from Vietnamese couldn’t retrain their shopping desires. They just went along separately by theirselves. They didn’t show up in the meeting point. Oh My God? weren’t they shy people? weren’t their English were not very good ? so the Korean Tax Centre Staf were so worry about them. It would become international crisis if they just missing in the middle of Korean Traditional Market.
Till the next morning, when I had to catch up my flight back home, I still didn’t meet this duo Nguyen. Hope they did succesfully came back to the hotel and flight safe
