This Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) theme was Family Empowerment Posts (FEP) in Indonesian is Pos Pemberdayaan Keluarga (POSDAYA). Posdaya is one of program helping achievement of Millennium Development Goals 2015. It is provides services for them who need help and a forum for participant and empowerment for expectant mothers, infants and children, students, youth and adolescents, parents, and the elderly. This is a local community and empowerment.
Indonesia has been formulating eight functions of the Indonesian families in the overall social fabric since 1980. Those eight functions are religious function, education function, cultural function, function of affection and care, sanctuary function, reproductive and family health function, economic function, environmental function.
In Sukahurip Village, the program focused to four functions. Those functions were education function, reproductive and family health function, economic function, environmental function.
Education level in Sukahurip village is very less. Many children who are illiterate and dropped out since elementary school. This was due to lack of awareness of the importance of education especially for children.
The minimum education levels got impact to health function, the environment, and entrepreneurship. In Health function, the children got less attention in cleanliness of the body. They just took a bath once a day, they nails was unclean and rarely washing hands before eat and washing their foot before slept.
In environment functions, they were littering, burning garbage in the gutter, kids defecating in sewer, so made it flood when raining. In addition to raising poultry are good less. This can lead to outbreaks of disease, such as bird flu.
In entrepreneurship function, they only sold things from their farms such as, tomatoes, tobacco, soybeans, chillies into traditional market. There was not processing of creative skill. Creative processing can provide high income and can be characterized in Sukahurip village.
The Programs :
1. Made Posdaya organization structure, called as “Posdaya Gotong Royong”
2. Door to door for lured children to went back to school.
3. Teaching in junior high and elementary school
4. Teach children literacy in “House KKN”
5. Organizational Leadership Training held to build the character of the nation
6. Bird Flu educations.
7. Making food with PKK
8. Independence day competitions and watched “Laskar Pelangi” movie.
In conclusion, the development of the education, healthy infrastructure, clean environment, and entrepreneur should be targeted to young family with young children under 15 years old. Special attention should also be addressed to young poor families, to ensure their children could attend school. Not only schooling, these children are also guaranteed to obtain suitable knowledge and skills for their specific needs and interests. Hopefully, they would emerge as a productive and potential young generation who are highly competitive with high market prices in labour force.
